To size up your split system, you first need to multiply the length and width of the room, giving you the overall size of the room in m². You then need to measure the height of the ceiling. Ceilings are most commonly 2.4m and 2.7m, occasionally being 3m.

Based on the height of the ceiling, you will then need to multiply your floor space by the units below:
2.4m= 150watts
2.7m= 160watts
3m= 175watts
For example, say your room was 7m long by 5m wide, with a 2.4m ceiling. Your calculation would be:
7×5= 35m²
35m²x150w= 5250w, which in Kws is 5.25kw.

Therefore, the ideal unit size would be a 6.3kw split system, with a 5kw split system being slightly too small.

Under sizing your split system can result in the unit having to work harder, potentially reducing its lifespan. It is always best to go slightly larger if possible.
Other factors that can affect the efficiency of your unit include insulation, the number of windows and glass doors in the room, and whether the room is an open plan living or a closed off area. Please feel free to contact us if you are unsure of any of these factors.
